Marla Karimipour is grounded by a strong drawing background which began to take shape during her high school years. Her skills were further honed during a summer program at Otis-Parsons School of Design in Los Angeles, where she focused on figure drawing. Marla received a BA in Psychology from the University of Michigan after which she combined her diverse talents and experience teaching drawing to abused adolescents in a foster care facility.

Despite her years of art education, Marla has never received any formal painting instruction. In 1996, she began concentrating her efforts on flowers and since has worked to develop her portfolio placing multiple works in private collections.

In the spring of 2003, Marla was invited to join 8 artists from across the country to be a part of Efflorescence, a botanical show at the John Michael Kohler Art Center in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. She was also voted in as an associate member of the prestigious Oil Painters of America.

Marla’s first taste of being published came in the fall of 2004. One of her paintings was chosen to appear in a book by International Artist Magazine entitled, 100 Ways to Paint Flowers and Gardens. Her work was also sought out to appear in a feature article in the December issue of American Artist magazine.
